Orbit and Neuro-ophthalmic Imaging

Suresh K. Mukherji, MD, MBA, FACR, Consulting Editor
Mankind has been fascinated with the eye and how it functions since before the birth of Christ. Our greatest thinkers, including Plato, Euclid, and Galen, felt that visual power emanated from the eye outward and allowed objects to be perceived. It was not until DaVinci did we finally understand that the visual stimulus reaches the eye and causes transduction of a nerve pulse along the optic nerve, eventually reaching the primary visual cortex.

Dr Juan E. Gutierrez has provided a practical and clinical approach to interpreting various diseases affecting globe, orbit, and visual pathways. He has assembled an excellent group of contributing authors who have contributed articles on a variety of disorders and imaging techniques, including CT, MR, ultrasound, and optical coherent tomography. I am sure this excellent issue will be very helpful for both radiologists and ophthalmologists.

Juan is not only an excellent colleague but also a very close friend whom I have known for over 20 years. He is a superb neuroradiologist and an even better person. I always can find Juan at RSNA because he is usually in his office. I probably should not reveal the location of his RSNA office, but I am sure he will be there next year. For those who want to make an appointment to hang out with Juan and me at RSNA next year, you will need to ask Juan the location on your own. See you next year, my friend!
