Clinical Presentation
A 44-year-old man with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, now presenting with progressive cough and shortness of breath.
Imaging Findings
(A–C) Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) axial images at three different levels reveal ill-defined multifocal areas of ground-glass opacity in both lungs (thick arrows) with irregular cysts in the upper lobes (thin arrows).
Differential Diagnosis
• Pneumocystis pneumonia: Multifocal ground-glass opacities that are more confluent in the upper lobes associated with cystic changes in a patient with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is one of the imaging manifestations of Pneumocystis pneumonia.
