Clinical Presentation

A 65-year-old woman presents with protein-losing enteropathy and marked weight loss.

Single-contrast barium study demonstrates multiple polyps throughout the stomach (arrows) that are predominantly affecting the body. Rugal folds are thickened. Nodular thickening of the jejunal folds is also seen.

Differential Diagnosis

• Hyperplastic inflammatory (retention) polyps: This top diagnosis is associated with Canada-Cronkhite syndrome, which is rare. It has a distinctive clinical presentation consistent with this patient’s history. This patient’s age is also consistent with Canada-Cronkhite syndrome.

• Hamartomatous polyps: These are the second choice as they are typically multiple and tend to spare the antrum, as in this case. They occur as part of Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, familial polyposis, or Cowden syndrome.
