Case 68
Clinical Presentation
A 19-year-old man presents to the emergency department with sepsis. A second study is obtained 3 weeks after catheter placement.
Further Work-up
(A) A contrast-enhanced computed tomographic (CT) scan shows a low-density collection in the right kidney (arrows). (B) Three weeks after drain placement, there is a persistent, large, low-density area despite low output in an afebrile patient (arrows).
Differential Diagnosis
- Drain placed in a clear cell sarcoma: The lack of complete resolution on imaging studies should prompt consideration of causes of refractory fluid collections.
