Biliary RFA is an intraluminal palliative technique where radiofrequency is used to ablate intraluminal tumour. It relies on the generation of high-frequency alternating electromagnetic energy resulting in thermal injury to the target tissue. Various studies have confirmed the safety and feasibility of biliary RFA for clinical use. The most common indication is to improve stent patency and thus patient survival in patients with unresectable malignant biliary obstruction.
