40 Emphysematous pyelonephritis
Background
This is a rare but life-threatening condition, with a reported mortality of about 40% [1]. If you recognize the radiological features promptly and start the right treatment you could save a life.
It can coexist with emphysematous cystitis (see Chapter 39).
