Bone-Destroying Metastases in Thyroid Undifferentiated Carcinoma

Fig. 9.1
Pathological accumulation of radiocompound on the right in the jaw and the ipsilateral ninth costal arch

Presence of left thyroid nodule with a high metabolism, SUV max 8, of doubtful meaning, to be studied by FNAB.

Slight increase in the consumption of FDG of the basisphenoid to the right, in some of the cervical (C2, C3) and a lumbar vertebrae (L3) due to degenerative involutive remodeling of osteoblastic benign type, SUV max 1.5.

No areas of pathological glucose deposition in the remaining body segments examined.

9.4 Conclusions

The PET shows alteration of glucose consumption in the mandible and the ninth right costal arch due to metastatic disease (Fig. 9.1).

Presence of thyroid nodule with a high metabolism to evaluate cyto-histologically.

Note: the following FNAB of the thyroid nodule showed a left undifferentiated carcinoma. (See also Figs. 9.2, 9.3, 9.4, 9.5).
