6] and IPEM81 [5]. Both documents provide guidance for checks to be conducted on a monthly to 12-monthly frequency. The IEC document does not specify weekly checks. An estimate of the total time for the checks suggested is approximately the same based upon experience of nominal times. This amounts to between 117 and 128 hours per year which compares favorably with 1 to 2 hours per week and one half day per month which requires 120 hours. If this time is taken from the normal working day then it amounts to only about 5% of the total normal time.


With an increasing number of treatment machines in a single centre, the time and resource for QC increases and scheduling techniques are required to accommodate it.
