INTRAVENOUS CONTRAST AGENT ADMINISTRATION IN ADULTS

Renal impairment

• Renal impairment combined with diabetes mellitus carries significant risk

• Congestive heart failure, old age (> 70 years), and concurrent nephrotoxic drugs are also risk factors for contrast nephrotoxicity

• Insufficient evidence supporting the use of pharmacological means to reduce the incidence of contrast nephrotoxicity

• Serum creatinine is a poor indicator of renal function, and eGFR should be used where possible

• Renal impairment = eGFR < 60ml/min/1.73m

• eGFR 30-60ml/min/1.73m

• eGFR < 30ml/min/1.73m
