131 Causes of intraarticular hypointensity on T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (T2WI) can be divided into diffuse and focal manifestations. Of the diffuse manifestations, amyloid and fibrous pannus do not have a paramagnetic effect on gradient echo images, which is helpful in distinguishing these etiologies from those with T2WI hypointensity secondary to bleeding and hemosiderin deposition. Paramagnetic effect in gouty tophi is variable, depending on whether there is hemosiderin deposition in the tophus.1
