With the use of fast spin echo imaging and the resulting savings in scan time, inversion times (TI) on the order of 2.5 sec (and TRs on the order of 10 sec) for the suppression of the signal from cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) are possible. This approach is typically performed with magnitude reconstruction, as illustrated. Imaging starts at the time at which the longitudinal magnetization of CSF is zero (Fig. 21.1).
