126 Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is useful in distinguishing simple lipomas from liposarcomas (Table 126.1). MRI is very specific in diagnosing simple lipomas. However, many lesions thought to represent well-differentiated liposarcoma are benign lipoma variants such as necrotic lipoma and chondroid lipoma.1
