The PET scan shows pathological glucose consumption in a suspected focal lesion at the anterior wall of the gastric stump
EGDS was repeated and the biopsy showed an undifferentiated adenocarcinoma.
Definitive diagnosis: 30 years after gastrectomy, this patient developed a tumor on the stump of the stomach that has infiltrated the transverse colon and resulted in a peritoneal carcinomatosis.
74.5 Key Points
The walls of the stomach have intrinsic glucose consumption related to the physiological peristalsis (Fig. 74.2). Benign pathological conditions such as gastritis or ulcer can lead to an increased gastric metabolism due to the presence of a nonspecific inflammatory component.
