Conditions Associated with a Hypodense Liver^4–6

• Diffuse steatosis: A steatotic liver will exhibit a lower mean attenuation than the spleen on noncontrast images.⁴
  
• Active alcoholic cirrhosis: Low density is not seen in acute viral hepatitis, viral cirrhosis, or inactive alcoholic cirrhosis.⁵
