Foreword

Suresh K. Mukherji, MD, MBA, FACR, Consulting Editor
First, I would like to thank Dr Jay Pillai for creating this important issue. This issue of Neuroimaging Clinics addresses the current clinical state-of-the-art in functional brain magnetic resonance imaging. Functional imaging has arguably changed the standard of care for patients undergoing surgical resection of brain tumors, epileptogenic tissue, and other structural brain lesions. This issue explores applications of BOLD and DTI to presurgical and other pretherapeutic planning and includes articles that focus on the motor, language, memory, and visual systems. The economic issues relating to the actual running of a clinical BOLD fMRI service has its own separate article with a description of current procedural terminology codes used for billing. This article should be especially helpful for those practices considering initiating their own service. I would also like to thank the authors for their wonderful contributions. This is a comprehensive, yet practical, monograph that should benefit numerous disciplines interested in learning more about functional brain imaging.
