Once one has learned to obtain a standard section, the technique can be used to scan or “fan out” the entire organ from the cranial to the caudal aspect and from the medial to the lateral aspect. The probe is moved parallel to the skin surface, just as one would wipe a glass plate or window pane. During an investigation one does not merely view a part of the organ. Rather, one should always view the entire organ.
